TCL/Tk ncpfs graphical client for NDS

ndslogin.tcl

Purpose:

  • A front end to ncplogin where most needed informations are either selectable in widgets with default values extracted from environnement or configuration files.

  • As with ncplogin, the final result will be a permanent connection to the SYS volume of the server that authenticated user. The mount point will be either $HOME/ncp/SERVER/SYS or /mnt/ncp/$USER/SERVER/SYS, with SERVER being the bindery name of the authenticating server.

  • This new connection does not have any specific status (monitored connection in NetWare API words), and closing it will not result in login out from the tree. Currently, to logout from a tree, user must umount (ncpumount) all permanent connections to NetWare resources belonging to that tree, or use ncplogout -T tree, or its graphical equivalent.

    Requirements:

    Usage:

  • In single tree environments or with specific Unix clients, administrators may decide to prohibit tree/context browsing. To do it:
    1. Set the values of browse_tree and start_advanced to 0 in /etc/ndsclient.conf file.
    2. Set the environmental variables NWCLIENT_PREFERRED_TREE and NWCLIENT_DEFAULT_NAME_CONTEXT in /etc/profile file.

The ndslogin.tcl window will then be reduced to the following layout:

Beware that is that case, either users are in the default context or they must type in their fully qualified name (relative to the default context). For example, with default context set to PC, a user of that context would simply type his "common name" such as testuser, but a user in sub-context GCP must type-in testuser.gcp.
